The Resort

Located on the South Coast of England some 30 miles from Bournemouth, Weymouth became established as England's first health and pleasure resort through the patronage of King George III who started the tradition of sea bathing.

The town's fine Georgian seafront forms a backdrop to the three miles of superb beaches that sweep around Weymouth Bay. With its new shopping centre, restored old harbour and clean, safe beaches, there is something for everyone in Weymouth.

185 million years of earth history in just 95 miles…welcome to the Jurassic Coast! The unique stretch of coastline between Dorset and East Devon is England's first natural World Heritage Site and ranks alongside other world famous sites such as the Grand Canyon and the Great Barrier Reef. Set at the heart of the Jurassic Coast, Weymouth has an unparalleled range of features which cannot fail to impress.

Immediately south of Weymouth, and joined to the mainland by a causeway, the Isle of Portland has a uniquely rugged landscape and a wealth of natural assets. One of its most impressive features is the Chesil Beach; one of the finest pebble banks in the world, 17 miles long and over 40 feet high in some places, it is one of the South Coast's most visited locations.

Recognised as a world class sailing destination and long favoured by watersports enthusiasts generally, all sailing events for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will be held in Weymouth and Portland.
